For the July newsletter, we are launching our new Business Loyalty Programme, pointing to encouraging news concerning successful business activity from the United States, introducing more new (and topical) products and, as promised last month, a providing a quick update on our charity work.



US Spending on Promotion Soars
Spending on promotional products by companies in the US has soared to a record high, according to new figures. The advertising Specialty Institute (ASI) says that latest sales analysis indicates that industry revenues reached 19.6 billion in 2007 – up 5.4 per cent from 2006. Spending on promotional items was 83 per cent greater than radio advertising, 73 percent greater than internet advertising and almost five times more than spending on outdoor advertising over the same period.
Also during 2007, spend on online, digital and other forms of ‘out of the box’ advertising topped 73 billion, an increase of 22 per cent on previous years. It’s not hard to see why! According to Harvard Business Review, over 60% of customers receiving a quality premium product in return for business transacted, remember where they were given the gift 12 months later. The same statistics also show that over 40% of those customers had revisited the same business at least 3 times in the year after receiving the gift. Compare this statistic with the recall or effectiveness of media advertising - usually less than 2 hours and in some cases 2 minutes, and the return on investment in promoting your business is clear.
In our view, promotional products will increasingly be used for promotional efforts such as brand marketing, sales conferences and giveaways. The big drive on promotional products is to push viewers to a companies’ web sites and there is clear evidence from the US that such strategies work even during these hard times. |

Finally, we promised to say a little about our charity work. Great Branding is proud to be associated with the ‘A Child Unheard’ Charity. Dedicated to establishing Centres worldwide providing safe havens, counselling and healing opportunities for young people and parents, who have suffered sometimes unspeakable adversity, the first centre opened in Mityana, Uganda last year and Great Branding supported this venture, designing, manufacturing and supplying branded clothing free of charge to the first children to use the centre, both to celebrate the occasion and publicise the event.
